Marseille - Monaco - Monte-Carlo

Marseille - Monaco - Monte-Carlo

Postby Bato86 » 31 Jul 2011 - 20:53

Hey!
I want to ask about the connection between Marseille-Saint-Charles and Monaco-Monte-Carlo (change in Nice-Ville).
I know there is a lot of free regional trains on this route but due to our previous and further connections we have to take this one:
Train no 4653 (Bordeaux-Saint-Jean - Nice-Ville) - dep. Marseille St.Charles 11:59, arr. Nice-Ville 14:34
and than RE 86039 (Grasse-Ventimiglia) - dep. Nice Ville 14:53, arr. Monaco-Monte-Carlo 15:15
My question is about the train no 4653. I suppose there could be some obligatory supplement, but how much do I have to pay for it?
Thanks in advance,
Bató

Hi.
The one mentioned is with supplement like Hetman said.
Use a later and free one:

Marseille-St-Charles dep: 1219 | Regional train (TER)
Nice-Ville arr: 1504

Nice-Ville dep: 1523 | Regional train (TER)
Monaco-Monte-Carlo arr: 1545

Hi! Thank you both, Peter and Hetman, for replying. However I've checked the European Train Schedule and French Railways website and I can't see the regional train to Nice at 12:19... We want to go this route the 13th of August (Saturday). Can you tell me if that train runs this day? If so, I'll be very lucky that we don't have to pay 18 euro :) Thank you once again :)

Or maybe I'll write our whole plan for 13th of August so maybe you'll find something better for me. The plan is: we want to spent as much time as possible in Marseille, than have a stop in Monaco and finally reach Genova from where we have a night train to Napoli Centrale. I've found something like this:
11:59 Marseille Saint-Chalres - Nice Ville 14:34 (train 4653)
14:53 Nice-Ville - Monaco-Monte-Carlo 15:15 (RE 86039)
a stop in Monaco and then
18:47 Monaco-Monte-Carlo - Ventimiglia 19:12 (RE 86053)
19:51 Ventimiglia - Genova Piazza Principe 23:02 (R 11389)
23:53 Genova Piazza Principe - Napoli Centrale 09:11 (ICN 799)
Our main goal is to spend as much time as possible in Marseille and Monaco and catch the train to Napoli. Maybe you'll advise me something better? :)

you have right,
but this day are also 3 other possibilities to go to Monaco by TER trains from Marseille, for example:
Marseille-St-Charles dep 14:29
Monaco-Monte-Carlo arr 17:45
with one change in Nice

So that's like I thought. The Regional train that Peter was talking about probably is running only during weekdays. So I understand that the only option if we want to see Marseille, Monaco and catch the train to Napoli is like I described above...

and one more question (sorry for so much questions, but we have millions of doubts...) Do you think it will be easy to buy the reservations for the train just before the departure? The problem is we can't buy reservations in our country and we don't have credit card so we can't do it by internet. I'm talking about the trains:
NZ 4249 21:36 Mulhouse-Ville - Marseille Saint-Charles 06:00 (12th of August)
4653 11:59 Marseille Saint-Charles - Nice Ville 14:34 (13th of August)
And some italian trains:
ICN 799 23:53 Genova Piazza Principe - 09:11 Napoli Centrale (dep. 13th of August)
ICN 774 19:57 Napoli Centrale - 07:28 Trieste Centrale (dep. 14th or 15th of August)
and:
EN 441 01:50 Ljubljana - 10:54 Budapest Keleti pu (dep. 16th or 17th August)
Sorry for definitely too much questions once again!

Where do you start your tour exactly - as if you know already the exact travel dates, you can buy them in advance somewhere at a station (don't has to be the country of the departure of the train).
It is never possible to give a forecast if a train is full or not... Peter :)

We start in Poland - I asked at the train station in the international ticket office and there is no possibility to book the tickets for France or Italy. Our first stop where we can do it is Vienna, but the problem is that we'll stay there only for 50 min (changing trains). I don't know if it is enough time to buy the reservations for 3 persons... Then we are going to Zurich and we stay there about 3 hours but in Switzerland I guess we have to pay in CHF instead of EUR...
So I think we'll try to book it in Vienna and then, we will see... (terrified... :))
