VENEZIA - UDINE to VILLACH - KLAGENFURT | by BUS

Postby sharpec » 22 Jul 2010 - 12:42

Hey there,

I will be using this connection from Wien to Villach to Venice and have reserved the Intercity Bus from Villach to Venice at full price (50 euros :o) from the OEBB website as it wasn't made clear anywhere whether the Interrail pass covered this bus.

Could you please confirm for me whether the Interrail Pass would cover the travel from Villach to Venezia Mestre Station on the 30th July and thus whether I should cancel this booking which adds a fairly hefty cost on top of what I've already paid for Interrail travel.

Many thanks
sharpec

Hi.

You only need a reservation for the bus - not to pay the full price!

Just read above carefully, there is written that you can buy the reservation at a railway station in Austria or directly in the bus (if free seats left) - NOT online!
The reservation fee is EUR 7 in 2nd class.
Try to get your full-price-ticket refunded at the place where you bought it.

Peter :)

Thanks for your reply Peter. I unfortunately only came to this site after having booked it so I will attempt to get my money back.

What are the chances of the bus being fully booked at about 3 o clock on a Friday, as my only worry is that we will get there and it will be fully booked as the next bus is two hours away and then there are no more after that?

Hi.

The buses at Friday afternoon will be definitely full. As it is peak travel time, like Sunday afternoon and evening as well.
Just buy the reservation at a train station some where in Austria some days in advance if possible.

Hi.
The best is to ask directly at the place where you bought it - as they should know what they sell.
I am only specialist for InterRail - so I can't help you with this special discounted ticket. Sorry about that. :?

VENICE - UDINE to VILLACH - KLAGENFURT - bus

Postby rbj1504 » 27 May 2012 - 23:33

Hi,

I am going inter railing for the first time next week. From Venice, I am travelling to Lake Bled. I have to get the bus to Villach on the 12th of June which is a Tuesday. Could anyone tell me where in Venice to book the journey? Do the bus and train journey have to be made as separate reservations or can it all be done in one go? Also, would you recommend booking the journey as soon as possible when arriving in Venice?

Thanks

Hi,

you can get the reservation for the Intercity Bus at the station in Venezia (Santa Lucia or Mestre) or at any other Trenitalia or ÖBB station. However, you do not need a reservation for the train to Lake Bled. Which connection are you talking about?

If you do not want to pay for the reservation on the Intercity Bus you could also travel by reservation-free regional trains via Goricia and Nova Gorizia which would take you along the scenic Wochein Railway as well. :)

Thank you very much. The plan is to get the 11:20 ICB832 from Venezia Tronchetto to Villach and then get a train from Villach to Jesenice as this route has the least changes. Would that be ok?

Thanks

Hi,

yeah of course. This would be your itinerary:

Venezia Tronchetto 1120 - 1450 Villach Hbf
Villach Hbf 1512 - 1621 Lesce Bled

Alternative connection without reservation:

Venezia Santa Lucia 1204 - 1419 Gorizia Centrale
Walk across the town
Nova Gorica 1524 - 1704 Bled Jezero

Or, with enough time for a coffee in the nice city of Goricia:

Venezia Santa Lucia 1004 - 1241 Goricia Centrale
Walk across the town
Nova Gorica 1414 - 1559 Bled Jezero

Note that both stations in Bled are a bit away from the city centre: From Bled Jezero 2,9km, from Lesce Bled 4,8km.

VENICE - UDINE to VILLACH - KLAGENFURT - bus

Am I right in thinking that one can book the bus tickets from Venice to Villach from any Trenitalia station? We will be in Milan and Tuscany before Venice. We want to travel to Villach (and then on to Salzburg) in late June when I suppose it will be very popular and fully booked? Train tickets from Villach to Salzburg, should we book those early too? Thanks.

Hi.
If you want to buy point to point tickets, you can do it for both routes at http://oebb.raildude.com
As earlier you book, as cheaper the prices are (special offers). Pre-booking usually up to three months in advance of the travel date.

Hej,

I would book a "Sparschiene" ticket online at the ÖBB website if you want to go with single tickets. A combined ticket Venezia - Salzburg can be had from 29€ if you book early.

And yes, you can purchase the tickets for the bus at all Trenitalia ticket offices.

VENICE to VILLACH - bus: Villach to Salzburg - Train

Postby smithersfamily » 27 Nov 2013 - 07:59

Hi
We are a family of four travelling from Venice to Salzburg on 21 Dec 2013. I have a few questions:
1. At this time of year, do we need to reserve seats on the bus to Villach or the train from Villach to Salzburg?
2. What will the total cost be for the bus to Villach and then the train to Salzburg?
3. Where do I book or reserve these tickets?
Thank you
Kary

Hi Kary!

1) The IC Bus from Venezia to Villach does require a reservation all year round, however this reservation is included in the ticket fare (an extra reservation would be needed only if you were travelling with a rail pass such as Eurail).
The train to Salzburg does not require a reservation.
2) This depends on the time of booking and therefore what kind of offers are available; currently the tickets for a family of fours (2 adults, 2 children <15 years) would be 109€.
3) At the website of ÖBB: http://oebb.raildude.com
